Jeane Thorne Inc. Centralizes its Twin Cities Operations

On April 30th, Jeane Thorne Inc., a leading Minnesota temporary staffing and fulltime placement firm, centralized its Twin Cities’ offices. The centralization of both the St. Paul and Minneapolis operations will enhance the ability to recruit a larger pool of employees with accounting, financial, administrative, legal, and customer service skill sets; thus, enhancing the responsiveness to clients ongoing staffing challenges.

Jeane Thorne is now located at 2701 University Avenue S.E., Minneapolis - east of the University of Minnesota and just off I-94 via the Huron Boulevard exit (the University/280 exit also an option if coming from the east metro).

“Letting go of a 38 year tradition of being headquartered downtown was a difficult decision,” says Mary Marso, Jeane Thorne CEO.  “However, it is important that we respond to preferences of candidates and employees who have long voiced uneasiness about downtown traffic and one way streets.  They also have increasingly voiced a preference for a location with easy access from the freeway along with free parking.  Our new location answers these concerns, preferences, and more.”

The 2701 University S.E. location offers a hub easily reached from all directions with parking right outside the door.  Bus transportation continues to be easily accessible with the University Avenue bus line and the future light rail line connecting Minneapolis and St. Paul will have a convenient station within two blocks of the office.  With Jeane Thorne staff at one central location, we intend to take advantage of the portability of laptop computers and wireless connections to meet with and interview more candidates at coffee shops and restaurants all around the Twin Cities.

“Methods to recruit the absolute best talent continue to evolve,” indicates Andrew Schmitz, Jeane Thorne President & COO.  “It is crucial that we conduct face-to-face interviews with our prospective employees and job candidates prior to placing them.  Today, Jeane Thorne has an on-line application which immediately populates into our database, on-line testing, on-line timecards, and of course, direct deposit.  So most of the screening, testing, and paperwork can be done before we even shake hands with the applicant.”

Company Receives Star Company Award at Annual Keystone Program Luncheon

December 2004 - The Minnesota Keystone Program has named Jeane Thorne Inc. as one of this year’s Honored Company Award winners.

receives the Star Company Award
from David Latta of U.S. Bank

Chosen from among the 248 companies being honored by the Keystone program for their community giving, Jeane Thorne Inc.  received the 2004 Star Company Award, which is presented annually to one small company that exemplifies the spirit of the program and is considered a small business.

Jeane Thorne Inc.'s giving efforts have been broad and far-reaching over the company's 35 year history in Minnesota, from a 10-year tradition of holding a golf benefit event for St. Joseph's Home for Children, to awarding scholarships to Jeane Thorne employees and other students for post-secondary studies.

The company's focus has been not only to contribute monetarily to community needs, but to focus on awareness of community needs, and the development of relationships between business, community, and education.  For example:

  • the minority student scholarships at St. Thomas University, and scholarships awarded at Minnesota State University-Mankato, require that the recipient meet some specific community service time commitment.
  • The 10-year history of the St. Joseph's Home for Children benefit event has had a great impact in increasing community awareness of the needs of the children served by St. Joseph's Home for Children.
  • Additionally, when Jeane Thorne Inc. staff are awarded a month-long sabbatical after seven-years of service, a community service project is required as a part of the leave time.

Jeane Thorne Inc. is a 2003 recipient of the 'Quality of Life Award'

January 2003 -
Jeane Thorne Inc. is one of six Twin Cities companies who received a Quality of Life Award from the Minneapolis Regional Chamber of Commerce.  Since 1991, the Chamber has annually presented its Quality of Life Awards as a way of recognizing the role businesses play in enhancing the region's quality of life. Winners are selected by a panel of representatives from the Twin Cities' business, public and non-profit sectors. Jeane Thorne’s award is in recognition of sustaining it’s eight-year tradition hosting a golf invitational to benefit St. Joseph's Home for Children. In 2002 Jeane Thorne staff, clients, vendors, and friends of the company spent the afternoon with over 50 residents of St. Joseph's playing miniature golf on St. Joseph’s grounds. More than a dozen companies contributed to the event through corporate sponsorships, in-kind donations, and silent auction items, and nearly $27,000 was raised to support St. Joseph's Home, bringing the eight-year total to close to $300,000. Jeane Thorne received its award at the Quality of Life Awards dinner Tuesday, March 18 at the Hilton Minneapolis.  More >
